A brutal heatwave has hit Pakistan. With daily temperatures hitting 50 degrees Celsius in some parts of the country, the scorching heat wave has transformed several cities into hell on earth. It has destroyed crops and icesheets much faster than previously anticipated. Officials have also warned of acute water shortage and the country is now staring at a major food crisis.

Pakistan is now ranked the 6th most vulnerable country on the planet and its Ministry of Climate Change estimates that climate change could cost the country anywhere from $7 billion to $10 billion a year in disaster response alone, never mind the massive losses in economic activities caused by the intense heat.

Can something be done to reverse the tide of climate change before it is too late? And will the people be able to fight the biggest threat to their existence?

Speculation around a possible trip to Taiwan by US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has triggered another warning from Beijing. China has said its military will “not sit idly by” if Ms Pelosi visits the island. Taiwan is not officially mentioned on her itinerary of her Asia trip. Should Ms Pelosi go ahead with her visit, she would be the highest-ranking US official to visit Taiwan since 1997. Last week, Chinese President Xi Jinping had warned his US counterpart Joe Biden not to “play with fire” over the Taiwan issue.

We go deep into the vast world of India’s scam call centers, meeting those behind the deception and the new breed of international scambaiters who are trying to bring these scammers down.

After seven years of running tech support scams, ‘Leo’ has leveled up. He is now an entrepreneur or a scam call center consultant who sets up scamming outfits for those with money to invest. From hiring to hardware, he has it down to a science, especially on how long it will take to generate returns for the investors.

At the other end of the spectrum, we follow an Indian scambaiter ‘Sven’ as he investigates a local company that’s running a scam call center. The majority of their victims are English-speaking foreigners overseas. Through reverse tracking, he has managed to get into the company’s systems, securing access to their confidential files and real-time CCTV footage of scams taking place.

Will ‘Sven’ be able to find enough evidence to submit to the police and conduct a crackdown?

– 5 Red Chillies

– 1 tsp Salt, or to taste
– 1 tbsp Sugar
– 4 tbsps or 50 ml of Lime Juice
– 1 tsp Vinegar

With the help of anti-scam organisations, #TalkingPoint producer Cheryl Tan got hold of scripts used by Asia-based love scam syndicates to execute ‘pig butchering scams’ – a mashup of romance scam and fake investment schemes.
